A major scandal is unfolding in Buenos Aires over the disappearance of more than 300 cats. Journalist Evelyn Von Brocke exposed the case on the air, stating that since 2023, a man has been allegedly stealing and mistreating cats in various areas of the northern part of the AMBA (Greater Buenos Aires). According to Von Brocke, the man's modus operandi is to enter homes and gardens, lure the cats, and then transport them away in cages on public transport. She described him as a hoarder who keeps the animals on a piece of land, whether it be squatted, inherited, or for sale. He prefers domestic cats over strays because they are friendly and approachable. Von Brocke confirmed that the man remains at large and recently, they received an alert locating him on a property with seven domestic cats. "He is impune, playing hide and seek," she said. Regarding the animals' fate, she mentioned that the accused had allegedly said, "I trade in cats." She also raised the horrific possibility that they could be used for food. Whenever they try to raise awareness of the situation, the man reacts with anger and aggression. In one case, involving a woman named Elizabeth, he was physically violent. Von Brocke urged neighbors to be extremely cautious and not let their cats outside, as the man trespasses on private properties. She also noted that there are two active restraining orders against him and that the prosecution should proceed with a request for his arrest. "The police can detain him, but if the prosecutor releases him, they can't do anything else," she concluded.
